Is this the back of Apple’s redesigned fifth-generation iPad?

While we cannot confirm that the above image is legitimate, it does provide a solid representation of what Apple’s next iPad will likely look like. We were told this is a prototype back piece for the fifth-generation iPad with a 9.7-inch display. We were also told that the casing is almost as thin as the iPad mini’s back (pictured to the right).
I can’t imagine the next iPad not looking like the iPad Mini. A full size iPad that is almost as thin and light as the iPad Mini is what I’m looking forward to most this year.
Apple announces 128GB iPad with Retina display will be available on February 5th
Just as the rumors foretold, Apple has just anounced a 128GB version of its fourth-generation iPad with Retina display — the Wi-Fi model costs $799, while the Wi-Fi plus LTE model costs a whopping $929.
I was hoping Apple would discontinue the 16 gig model and just double all the current storage and charge the same prices. I bet that happens when they release the new iPad next fall.
Over 5.0 million Nexus 7s to be shipped in 2012, say Taiwan makers
At the end of the second quarter, Google expected shipments of 2.5 million Nexus 7s in 2012 but since then it has continually placed additional orders in view of booming sales, with the cumulative shipment volume in 2012 will reach 5.0 million units based on orders released, according to Taiwan-based players in the supply chain.
Not a bad number, but again, this is “shipped” not sold. And Apple “sold” 3 million iPads in one weekend.

Official: Apple iPad 3 event slated for March 7th in San Francisco | The Verge
Yes, it’s finally, really happened. We just received our invite for Apple’s next big event — almost certainly where the announcement of the iPad 3 (or iPad HD, or some other name no one has guessed yet) will take place. The event is being held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10AM PST, on Wednesday, March 7th…

The worst kept secret in the Appleverse is now officially official. We’ll record an episode of the podcast shortly after the keynote.
There is no indication that Apple will live stream the event, but TWiT.TV usually has pretty good live coverage.

Apple to Announce iPad 3 First Week in March
John Paczkowski:
Sources say the company has chosen the first week in March to debut the successor to the iPad 2, and will do so at one of its trademark special events. The event will be held in San Francisco, presumably at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Apple’s preferred location for big announcements like these.
I believe it.
Via Daring Fireball Linked List: John Paczkowski: Apple to Announce iPad 3 First Week in March
Apple is really good at keeping secrets, but AllThingsD and John Gruber have pretty good track records.
My guess is: iPad 3 will be introduced the first week of March. It will have an A6 dual core chip, new high resolution display, and look identical to the iPad 2. (Long live the Smart Cover!)
A "Holy Fucking Shit" Quarter
Remember back in October when after a rare “miss” by Apple (which was only a miss because analysts are stupid and lazy), the early signs pointed to the potential of a $40 billion quarter? Some thought that was insane given that Apple had never even had a $30 billion quarter before. Well, turns out that projection was a little insane — insanely low.
It’s a number so insane that it even destroys the $42.76 billion blow-out “whisper” number.
As for the early projections of 34 million iPhones sold — which again, some people thought were crazy — also low. Try 37 million.
But hey, Android is winning, right?
As for the other numbers. 15.43 million iPads. A record. 5.2 million Macs. A record. 15.4 million iPods. Not a record, but no surprise — this is the age of the iPhone.
Net quarterly profit was $13.06 billion. Again, holy shit.
That stock you were an idiot for selling after aforementioned “miss”? Up 10% now in after-hours trading, well past $460 a share. By far an all-time high, pushing Apple’s market cap well past $400 billion.
Apple now has $97.6 billion in cash.
I’ll be listening to the call at 2PM PT and posting some follow-up thoughts on TechCrunch. Stay tuned.
Incredible. I’m most impressed with the iPad numbers. Again, there is no tablet market, it’s an iPad market.
Reopen Recently Closed Tabs in Safari for iPad
In Safari for iOS 5, just press and hold on the “new tab” plus sign on the right, and you’ll see a menu of your recently closed tabs. Nifty!
This is a really good tip.
